Castle Valley Court Docket Searches
The town itself runs no docket portal and posts no case-search page. So search the court that actually holds your case. Grand County Justice Court is the venue for traffic tickets, infractions, Class B and C misdemeanors, and ordinance violations. It also takes safety citations and small claims. Seventh District Court in Moab covers felonies and most civil and domestic matters. That court also handles probate and appeals from the Justice Court.
- Read the court name, location, number, and deadline on the official paper.
- Open Utah Courts Xchange and select Justice Court or District Court.
- Set Search Scope to Grand County or the Moab court location.
- Use the case or citation number when known, with court scope because numbers are not unique statewide.
- For names, use Utah Courts' recommended trailing wildcard and add case type or dates.
- Confirm the result with the responsible clerk when any field conflicts.
Xchange is a paid service that summarizes case history. Most district courthouses offer a free public terminal instead. Call the Justice Court ahead to confirm terminal access before you drive.
Castle Valley's County Court Route
Castle Valley is incorporated, but a town charter alone does not create a justice court. The practical route runs through Grand County. The court printed on the citation controls. If it names Grand County Justice Court, call 435-259-1334 or write to jcmoab@utcourts.gov. For Seventh District Court filings, the number is 435-259-1349.
No town docket was located. Castle Valley residents use the named court, with the county Justice and District courts as the documented local routes.
This is a clean routing answer, not a gap waiting for a made-up town office. Two exceptions matter. Juvenile cases run through a separate restricted system, and federal cases never appear in Utah Xchange.
Inside the Castle Valley Municipal Court
Castle Valley has no municipal judge. There is no municipal justice-court page, no town case-search link, and no local payment portal. There is simply no town court structure to describe. The county path plus the exact court name on your paperwork is the substitute.
Both local courts sit at 125 E. Center Street, Moab, UT 84532. Grand County Justice Court handles the lower-court docket there. Seventh District Court occupies the same building. It keeps separate staff and jurisdiction, and sharing an address does not merge their records. Tell the clerk which court you mean before reciting a case number.
Castle Valley's Twenty-Mile Access Question
Grand County puts Castle Valley about 20 miles northeast of Moab. That drive makes online tools worth using, though distance never changes which court holds jurisdiction. The public calendar shows near-term activity. Xchange pulls public case information. A phone call can fix a missing or reset hearing date before you travel.
The Castle Valley branch library at 2 Castle Valley Drive is a community resource, not a court-record keeper. Do not mail a docket request there. The Moab Justice Court and District Court clerks remain the right offices.
Finding Castle Valley Court Dates
Utah's public District and Justice Court calendar lists hearings two weeks out and updates daily. Each entry shows the court, location, judge, date, time, case number, party names, and hearing type. Expect the court's title to say Moab rather than Castle Valley, since the hearing sits in a county courtroom.
| Named Court | Determines which calendar and clerk apply |
|---|---|
| Location | Shows where or through what remote method to appear |
| Case Number | Matches the setting to the correct local record |
| Hearing Type | Describes the scheduled event, not the case outcome |
| Newest Date | Must be checked after a reset or continuance |
A date that vanishes from the calendar deserves a call: Justice Court at 435-259-1334, District Court at 435-259-1349. Xchange can also leave a stale setting in its proceedings list after a hearing moves.
Remote Castle Valley Filing Routes
A Seventh District order from October 2024 applies to Moab and Grand County self-represented parties. Those parties can email PDF pleadings to moabscan@utcourts.gov. Each filing needs a phone number or email on it. Paper still works too, by mail or the secure courthouse dropbox. Lobby scanners are available. The order promises same-day processing of pleadings.
Never put cash in the dropbox. When a new case needs a filing fee, the clerk opens the case and explains how to pay online. Email filing spares Castle Valley residents the first drive to Moab, but it does not promise every case belongs in District Court or qualifies for email. Check the current process with the clerk and follow the court the rules assign.
Castle Valley Traffic Ticket Lookups
Your citation is the starting point. In Xchange, limit the search to Justice Court and Grand County scope. Citation numbers repeat across Utah. Grand County's traffic page links Secure Instant Payments for lookup and payment. You can search by case or citation number. Utah ePayments is a second state route that needs the number, though not every court uses it.
The county gives you 21 calendar days to respond. Miss that and the ticket turns delinquent with a $50 add-on. After 15 more delinquent days, another $75 applies and a warrant issues. Card payments through the county-linked vendor cost 2.5 percent, with a $2.50 minimum. A foreign card adds another 1.5 percent. A ticket missing from the system is not a dismissal. Call Justice Court before the deadline if your search comes up empty.
Castle Valley Is Not Spanish Valley
Castle Valley is its own incorporated town. Grand County sources treat Spanish Valley as something different, a suburb or unincorporated area, so the two should not be confused when hunting court records. That distinction shapes which municipal pages exist. It says nothing about a town court, though. Grand County counts just two incorporated municipalities: Moab and Castle Valley.
A county planning chart from the 2020 Census era put Castle Valley near 3 percent of county population. Moab held 56 percent, and unincorporated areas 41 percent. Those figures are historical planning context, not live head counts. They do explain why Grand County court access makes sense for a small town, without inventing a population number or a Castle Valley court that does not exist.
How Castle Valley Cases Reach the County
Most lower-level Castle Valley matters start in Grand County Justice Court. From there, Utah District Court can hear an appeal of a Justice Court judgment. A small-claims trial de novo goes there too. Felonies and most civil litigation skip the lower rung. So do domestic relations and probate. Those cases begin at District Court, never through a town court.
That route is conditional, not automatic. The court named on the citation controls. A District Court case does not travel backward to Justice Court. Juvenile matters go to Juvenile Court and stay out of ordinary public Xchange results. Statewide appellate courts run separate dockets after qualifying District Court review.
Castle Valley District Court Records
Seventh District Court in Moab serves as the general-jurisdiction trial court for Grand County. Its clerk holds felony records and Class A misdemeanors. The office also keeps ordinary civil files, domestic-relations matters, probate, judgments, orders, and more. For forms, standing orders, and location details, turn to the official Seventh District page. It publishes the Grand County material. That material feeds every Castle Valley docket search.

Use the district page for District Court procedure. A Castle Valley town website cannot replace the court clerk. Moab District Court joined Xchange on July 30, 1996, so older records may be incomplete online. Call 435-259-1349 about an older public matter. Or file the formal Request for a Record process.
Castle Valley Record Request Custodians
Send a court record request to the Justice or District Court clerk. County administrative requests go through the Grand County GRAMA portal instead. The elected Clerk/Auditor is not the clerk of courts. The offices share the 125 E. Center Street building. That makes the mix-up easy. State court records still follow UCJA Rules 4-202 through 4-202.08.
| Requested item | Correct starting office |
|---|---|
| Justice case history or citation | Grand County Justice Court clerk |
| District civil, felony, probate, or domestic record | Seventh District Court clerk |
| County administrative record | Grand County GRAMA process |
| Federal court docket | District of Utah through PACER |
A written court request can seek inspection or a copy of a reasonably specific record. Expect a response within ten business days, though fees or access review can stretch that timeline.
Who Can See Castle Valley Court Records
Any member of the public may ask to inspect court records, and inspection costs nothing. Paper copies run $0.25 per sheet. Certified copies add $4 per document plus $0.50 per page, and Xchange guest access carries separate search and document charges. After the free initial staff time, a clerk may bill for extra work under the court rules.
Openness has limits. Xchange leaves out sealed adoptions and civil commitments. Expunged cases stay hidden. Juvenile delinquency, child welfare, and termination-of-parental-rights files are excluded as well. Private domestic, protective-order, guardianship, medical, or victim material can be withheld too, even when public case events or orders stay visible. A blank result does not prove no case exists.
Use lawful access. State the basis for access on the Request for a Record form when seeking material that is not public.
When No Castle Valley Court Appears
Skip the invented town portal. Reread the official paperwork for the court named on it, then run an Xchange docket search with Grand County and the right jurisdiction. Wildcards help with tricky names in the Utah Courts format. Too many hits? Narrow by date range or case type. On a citation, confirm the issuing court and call Justice Court before any deadline runs out.
Still nothing? Try 435-259-1334 or jcmoab@utcourts.gov for Justice Court. For District matters, use 435-259-1349 or moabscan@utcourts.gov. The counters sit at 125 E. Center Street, where a free public terminal may be available. Mailing a formal record request is another option. Even without a municipal court page, Castle Valley residents keep a full fallback chain.
Access stays simple when residents name the actual court, since a Castle Valley address should never be mistaken for a separate town docket. Before driving to Moab, write down or save the case number, court level, setting date, and party role. Ask the clerk whether the public terminal is open. Also ask whether the item wanted is a case-history entry, a filed document, audio, or a certified copy. Each follows different request and fee routes. A mailed request should name the responsible court and describe the record with reasonable detail. For a time-sensitive hearing, check the daily calendar. Confirm by phone rather than waiting out the written-response period. If a local order allows a self-represented filing by email, include contact information and wait for the clerk's payment instructions whenever a new case carries a fee.
